Salira unveils Flexible Multi-Wavelength Solution

May 20, 2016

Salira Systems, Inc. EPON vendor with MEF Carrier Ethernet certification, has announced that the company will unveil a new flexible multi-wavelength EPON solution during the Cable Show in New Orleans.

Branded the MW-PON, the new solution will enable carriers and operators to utilize four times the existing bandwidth capacity of fibre networks.

Salira’s solution will use an implementation of CWDM, or, Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing to enable an increase in bandwidth capacity without the need for upgrades to the outside plant.

Salira’s solution will increase the bandwidth capacity of each single fibre strand by a factor of four.

This will enable carriers and operators to be in a position to offer individual service level agreements with high-bandwidth, or alternatively to increase the end-user density reachable via a single fibre.

Salira’s MW-PON is capable of increasing the bandwidth capacity from 1 Gbps to 4 Gbps for each PON link.

Traffic is carried over four wavelengths, thereby quadrupling bandwidth that can be carried via a single fibre optic cable.

MW-PON’s bandwidth capacity is symmetric, which will mean that end-users can upload data at the same enhanced speeds.

Salira uses SFP modules on the CPE side allowing service providers to re-assign equipment if conditions change.

Salira’s products are based on the IEEE 802.3ah protocols for Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (EPON).
